Among the highlights of the day, No. 5 seed Dennis Novikov dispatched wild card Brian Baker with a convincing 6-1 third set victory, and Mackenzie McDonald defeated Italian qualifier Salvatore Caruso to move into the final. McDonald will face Frances Tiafoe on Friday. “This is set to be a showdown not to be missed between two amazing athletes in great form,” said tournament director Brendan Curry.
No. 1 seed Benjamin Becker (GER) was forced to retire from the Challenger in the third set of his match against Darian King (BAR) as the result of a pectoral injury, leaving King to compete against Novikov in the quarterfinals.
In addition, defending champion Tim Smyczek takes on Mitchell Kruege, and Michael Mmoh faces No. 2 seed Bjorn Fratangelo on Friday.
